History of the Bank

The Bank was founded in 1990 under the name of Kulturbank with 50% foreign and 50% Hungarian ownership.

In 1992 the French Banque Indosuez S.A. acquired majority ownership and the bank continued its activity under the name of Banque Indosuez Hungary Ltd. From February 1996 the Korean Hanwha Group - established in 1952 and one of the 10 largest South-Korean business conglomerates - operates the bank as majority owner after purchasing the shares of Banque Indosuez Hungary Ltd. on February 1, 1996 under the Hanwha Bank Hungary Co. Ltd. name. The Bank’s subscribed capital is HUF 5.509 billion.

The Bank’s scope of activity

Hanwha Bank Hungary Co. Ltd. operates in the traditional commercial and investment-banking sector. As a long-standing member of the Hungarian banking sector, our objective is to provide high quality, quick, flexible and tailor-made services to our clients that only a small organization is capable of providing, while enjoying at the same time the financial support of a great holding company.

In developing its services, the Bank primarily focused on small and medium size enterprises, medium and high-income individuals. The free-to-use mortgage loan that is so popular amongst our individual clients can be taken either in HUF or CHF. Individual clients with home purchasing in mind can be served with state subsidised home loans. For corporate clients we offer project financing loans, working capital loans, project loans and current account loans denominated in HUF, EUR and USD.

The bank since 2003 performs in a constantly improving and ever-profitable manner, which owes mainly to the clear-cut business strategy and the professional management.

Year-by year bank is able to tackle the challenges and changes of the financial market and is able to adjust itself to the needs of the clients, which clearly shows the proper strategy setting.

Pawn brokerage is handled by Bank’s affiliate, Pignusz Ltd.
